Illegal Vaping products continue selling despite posing a health risk

Illegal Vaping products

Vapes have been associated with several respiratory diseases. In a few states, the illness toll has increased so much that the government has consciously decided to ban Vapes for some time so that the right cause of the illnesses can be known. Despite such issues encircling the larger issue, legal pot Vapes are still sold in the market. More than 1000 cases of vape related illnesses have been reported yet there is no seriousness when it comes to bans.

Many states like California, Colorado, and Nevada ensured that they ban cannabis Vapes when the outbreak of the illness was reported. Headset Incorporation in one of its Seattle based analytics reported that there has been a major loss in the market share in the legal recreation market between Mid-September and Latter august. But these declines have now narrowed down elsewhere except Colorado.

The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention implied that most of the cases that were reported had patients who were using vaping products. Surprisingly the vaping products they used were sourced from illegal sources that had toxic chemicals that are responsible for creating lung issues. So, due to this fear, consumers have switched to legal sourcing of vape instead of going to the unregulated illegal vape sourcing.

The market estimates point out the increase in the sale of vapor pens if people choose to switch from the black market to legitimate sources to avail it. They will do so with the full assurance that the product will be legal and tested which will not be the cause of concern anymore.

On one hand is the market estimate of the growth, and on the other hand, it is also interesting to note that the dry flower sale has also been affected despite the tumbling demand of Vapes. The market share of dry flowers in Nevada fell in September but in states like California and Washington, the sale was almost flat. The other categories of cannabis have not suffered so much with its sale up in most parts of Washington and California.

Canada has put a temporary ban on vaping products until December 16th. It has officially reported one case of vaping illness which has urged the government to have regulatory control over the products. The government has felt the need to ensure the safety of the consumers and to ensure that the goal of healthy Canada is not interrupted with such devices. It aims to nip in the bud so that it doesn’t give way to growing concerns.

Taking a cue from the action of the Canadian Government, the Cannabis Industry association also requested the Federal Government to intervene and take a similar regulatory approach. The requisition has come by the association to remove cannabis from the controlled substances so that it is on par with alcohol. This should be done so that more funds can be allocated to the industry to encourage research. This will help the government to get to the roots of the illness and determine if the illness is due to cannabis or not.

CBD is derived from the hemp plant which comes from the Cannabis Sativa family. CBD is anti-inflammatory and also does not produce any mind-altering effects. It has less than 0.3% of THC , which is found in abundance in Marijuana. Hence when the user smokes pot or weed, it might result in severe addiction which has long run repercussions.

CBD also has been associated with several benefits in the medical industry. It has been extremely successful in treating the conditions of several illnesses such as depression, stress, anxiety, cancer and Alzheimer’s. People with arthritis experiencing joint pains have also become dependent on CBD oil as they have been experiencing a lot of relief in their conditions. Severe cases of epilepsy and constant seizures too have been under check after Epidiolex became legal to source.

The Cannabis association does not want these benefits of CBD to go unnoticed with irreverent bans which might harm the chances of recovery in several illnesses. In a letter that has been signed by 800 cannabis executives, NICA has also requested consumers to refrain from illegal vaping products.

The letter from NCIA addressed to Nancy Pelosi and Kevin McCarthy want the risks to clear so that no lives are put to stake. The need for a legal and a tighter controlled market is genuine because the country has suffered in terms of unregulated vaping products crowding the market. If government curbs production and sale of such products it will give way to tested vape products. For now, what seems reasonable and logical is to put a ban on these products and the real reason should be known for these issues.

Vaping causes a near-death experience to Benjamin Camarillo

Vaping causes a near-death experience

Vaping is the inhaling and exhaling of vapour produced by a device or more popularly called E-cigarettes. Vaping is slightly different from the usual cigarettes because they do not produce tobacco smoke. They produce tiny particles which we call aerosol.

Many imply that these particles are extremely toxic because they cause cancer and respiratory diseases. Vaping is becoming extremely popular and now they are not just in the form of E-cigarettes but also in the form of vape pens.

Recently a person is thanking God that he is alive because he nearly experienced death due to vaping. The contagion of diseases related to vaping has increased sharply with about 500 cases getting registered in the country. Out of the registered cases 11 people have been reported to be dead. These deaths have been related to death due to vaping products which have made the Federal Government sit up and notice.

Vaping products were legalised in the US in the year 2007 but ever since there has been a barrage of vaping products that have flooded the market. The White House now has decided to build a policy structure that will ban the entourage of flavoured vaping products. The policy, though, might not be receiving the reception it intends to and will surely be up for debate.

The patient Benjamin Camarillo began facing troubles with breathing and a sense of heaviness. He decided to visit the hospital doubting it is Pneumonia. When he reached the hospital he took a few tests with CAT scan and his health further sank. When the reports came out it was revealed that his lungs were choked and congested.

When the report came in, he understood that his congested lungs were a result of vaping. He revealed that he vaped both THC and nicotine flavoured products. He was so addicted to it that every time there was a new product in the market he would go and buy it. He also became secretive about the products he used. He was under the assumption that vaping would be safe for him to use but little did he know that it will come to this.

But, now the government is getting stern and is pondering on banning all products related to vaping. Chris Goodwin, the owner of 806 Vapes believes it is not the right way to deal with the situation. He said that in the market there are many vaping products and e-cigarettes is just one of them. Consumers are also using vaping items containing cannabis containing Vitamin E Acetate. He believes that flavoured nicotine is not causing this issue, but rather it is due to the Vitamin E Acetate which clings to the lungs.

CBD does offer a wide range of vaping products but it has a bright future. CBD is extracted from the hemp plant and has anti-inflammatory properties. The cannabis Sativa plant produces both hemp and marijuana. In the upper portions where THC is found in negligible quantity, CBD is produced, whereas, in the innermost portions, where THC is high, we can find marijuana. CBD, when taken gives a better feeling rather than feeling high.

CBD also offers a lot of medical benefits to people suffering from different ailments. It works on skin problems like acne and also makes you less nauseated. When taken in higher dosages it is also effective for epilepsy and seizures. Based on research studies, CBD will have a larger role to play in the healthcare industry.

Mark Stigler who was the consulting pulmonologist, in this case, mentioned that Amarillo has reported several cases related to vaping although confirmation is still pending. The problem is that there is no way to determine if the condition was due to vaping. The regulation business now has to be serious because the government should decide which products to keep and which ones to let go. The doctor also said that it could be anything from THC to cannabis oil, but no one can determine.

New policies are required so that fake vaping devices with wrong specifications can be ousted from the market. The illnesses that are caused due to vaping have no fixed treatment procedure as the disease is still in its nascent stage. The case of Benjamin Camarillo should be an eye-opener to everyone who uses vaping products. He is now finding it hard to cover his house expenses after medical bills.

The onus is now on the government to bring in regulations and catch hold of those manufacturers who do not specify the right amount of THC.

Lung diseases and death might give vaping products a tough time

Lung diseases and death might give vaping products a tough time

The biggest obstacle to the rise and rise of Marijuana associated vaping products is currently facing the danger of health issues and risks. Vaping products were selling like hotcakes which gave fire to the already hot marijuana pot market.

But the popularity of these vaping products powered by pot is about to take a thud on the ground. Many sources have confirmed that these vaping products are directly proportional to mysterious lung disorders that are erupting in different parts of the country.

Upon further investigations, these ailments have been linked to vaping products containing THC. Now, this is a dangerous finding because THC is the psychoactive compound that is found in abundance in Marijuana. This psychoactive compound is responsible for mind-altering effects which are not so in the case of CBD.

Ever since the information has made rounds the sale of vaping products have taken a hit. The largest producer of edibles and vaping products in Nevada owned by Cannabis One also is facing the heat of slowing demand.

The slowdown has been felt in the market owing to the information dissemination about these lung ailments. Cannabis One CEO Jeff Mascio also has confirmed the downtrend in the sale of vaping products. In such cases, even the genuine vaping products containing no pot also suffer mainly because of the bad name created.

There is a lot of difference between marijuana and CBD which is often misunderstood by people. Both are extracted from the hemp plant and are from the Cannabis Sativa family but the difference is in the levels of THC found in the plant.

In marijuana, the THC level is extremely high and that is primarily the reason for addiction. CBD has less than 0.3% of THC psychoactive compound which is within the safer limits. CBD has proven to be a wonderful component in the health care industry. It also has several anti-inflammatory properties that make it a preferred choice.

Mascio has said that the conclusions are drawn too fast without much thought given to it. The company’s vaping products have taken a hit especially after the occurrence of 8 deaths. But Mascio believes that despite vaping products attracting all the wrong attention, people are still moving to edibles and flower products.

The Food and Drug Administration has confirmed 530 lung-related illness and 8 deaths all which have been deliberated along with these vaping products. Based on this alarming data, FDA also ordered a criminal examination wherein it was targeting the supply chains of the companies as well as evaluating the ingredients that go into the making of E-cigarettes and other vaping products.

Before this issue, a large chunk of marijuana sale was due to vaping pens that used electronically heated marijuana oils. This figure represented about 23.8 % of marijuana sale in a data analysis given by Headset analytics.

But after the crisis, trends have taken the southern direction. In California, alone vaping products have lost 4.2% of the market. In Nevada and Washington State the downturn in the sale was 4.6% and 3.2% respectively.

The sales of cannabis oil pods that are used with vaping pens also have taken the hit. According to the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission, the revenues generated from the sale of oil pods had reduced by 24% which is very significant.

The founder of Green flower media which is a famous educational resource for Cannabis, Max Simon believes that it is due to the bad press that the cannabis industry is suffering. CBD has become an important part of the health care industry.

With several medical companies wanting to use CBD oil in their medications, we still await the back-up study research on CBD and its benefits. But, CBD has been effective in easing of the symptoms of epilepsy and seizures which no medicine or treatment has been able to achieve. Apart from that, it also has been quite effective in the treatment of joint pains, injury bruise recovery, depression, cancer and Alzheimer’s.

The current crisis is making everyone notice it. People are restraining themselves from using vaping products and that has affected its sale. The “Starbucks of the Cannabis world”, Desert Hot springs also are suffering. The once leading cannabis place has been talking about how its sale is plunging.

But this might be temporary phenomena because general trends see only a minor twitch in sales. They assure that overall sale is stable and none of this can have any major impact on the overall sales. Cannabis One CEO is confident that it will not hurt them in the long run and things will be back to normal. But for now, Cannabis one shares has decreased by 5.8% bringing its price down to 25 cents per share.

CBD oil or cannabinol is stated to be the next big thing. People now have belief in the working of CBD and are researching it. Only time will tell if the promise of CBD holds well in the long run.

High strength cannabis increases risk of psychotic disorders in users

A recent cannabis study on multiple patients claims that high potency cannabis with varieties combined with frequent use tend to increase chances of mental health problems among users.

Experts have previously flagged the link between cannabis and psychosis, especially among vulnerable people who consumed cannabis in high dosage. Moreover, recent studies suggest that potency of the cannabis consumed has a vital role to play in how many new cases of psychotic disorders arise in the city.

Prohibiting the use of high-potency cannabis would result in lower mental disorder as per the study which estimated that 30% of first-time of psychotic disorders in south London, and half of those in Amsterdam, were all results of high-potency cannabis consumption. The team says that this equates to almost 60 fewer cases per year in south London.

“If you are a psychologist like me who works in this catchment area and sees first-episode psychosis patients, this has a significant impact at the level of services and, I would also argue, family and society,” said Dr Marta Di Forti, the lead author of the research, from King’s College London.

High-strength cannabis contains high levels of Tetrahydro cannabinoid, popularly known as THC which is responsible for the “high” that one might feel after inhaling cannabis. It is a psychotic component found in the cannabis plant which can cause mental disorders and create an imbalance of chemicals in the body leading to several diseases.

Skunk, a high-strength cannabis has levels of THC above 10%. According to the data released last year, 94% police cannabis seizures in the UK were of high strength varieties, entailing minute traces of cannabinoid aka CBD which is a non-psychoactive component that could possibly reduce the high or prevent it altogether.

Writing in the journal Lancet Psychiatry, Di Forti and an international team of researchers report how they studied patient data – including cannabis use- recorded between mid-2010 and mid-2015 about 901 adults under the age of 65 who visited mental health services in one of the 10 locations in Europe, or one in Brazil, and received their first diagnosis of a psychotic disorder which did not result into, for example, brain tumours or acute drug use.

After considering an array of conditions including drinking habits, smoking cigarettes, educational background and use of other drugs like ketamine, the team discovered that patients with psychotic disorders were more likely to have consumed cannabis at some point of time in their lives as compared to those who were healthy.

The team also concluded that the chances of having a psychotic disorder were higher by 40% in those who used cannabis frequently – more than once a week – as compared to those who did it rarely or occasionally. Moreover, the chances of having a psychotic disorder were thrice in people who consumed cannabis on a daily basis as compared to those who rarely took it.

The most severe case of mental disorders is linked to people who consumed cannabis at a high frequency combined with high potency as compared to those who never did it or rarely did.

Daily cannabis use linked with psychotic disorders in people can be observed in Amsterdam, where the chances were seven times higher than for people who never used cannabis. Almost all the cannabis sold in coffee shops in Amsterdam are of high potency. On the other hand, varieties of cannabis with 67% THC can be found in Netherlands.

Registered cases of psychotic disorders were found highest in Amsterdam that other locations studied, with only south London surpassing it.

“Daily use of high-potency cannabis and how this varies across Europe explains some of the striking variations we have measured in the incidence of psychotic disorder,” said Di Forti.

However, she duly noted that not every person who consumes cannabis on a daily basis is bound to suffer from a psychotic disorder, she said that there are multiple reasons and factors contributing to these mental disorders, cannabis alone, cannot be taken as the only reason causing psychosis.

The study had its own limitations owing to the fact that it was self-reported use of cannabis and a small number of participants were involved. Also, THC and CBD were not measured in exact proportions, however, cannabis with high potency combined with increased frequency was a common factor noted in majority of the cases.
