More than 7.7 million trees planted under the #Teamtreescampaign

Popular YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson reached a great threshold in May. He reached the 20 million subscribers threshold and asked his subscribers and fan about how he should be celebrating this achievement.

One of his fans responded saying that he could plant 20 million trees representing each subscriber. It was that day when the concept of #Teamtreescampaign came into being in collaboration with content generators and Arbor Day Foundation.

For every 1$ contribution to the cause, the Arbor Day Foundation will plant one tree. The trees will be planted on all continents except Antarctica and the trees so planted on other continents will be per their natural habitat. Planting trees is perhaps the best way to reduce CO2 levels in the atmosphere and is the best bet to save the environment.

More about the Initiative

This initiative was started in the year 2019 when the fans of Donaldson from YouTube and Twitter suggested he plant 20 million trees. Donaldson’s popularity on YouTube had often gotten him involved in several projects about raising funds by increasing views on his videos. He mentioned that he along with his friends also tried to plant as many trees as possible in a day and they could only plant 300 trees.

Arbor Day Foundation which is the largest non-profit conservation organizations also have dedicated them to the cause and heavily focussed on completing the project the year-end.

The cause has garnered huge media attention online and offline and has also attracted a lot of celebrities to the cause.

Elon Musk the CEO and co-founder of Tesla have donated $1million to the project. His twitter handle was also changed to “Treelon” to showcase his support for the same. The contribution of Musk is considered to be the highest so far.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey also has involved himself in the online campaign of the initiative. He has pledged to plant more than 150,000 trees.

Looking at the substantial contributions made by eminent corporate whiz kids, YouTube also has decided to contribute an equivalent amount as Elon Musk and Twitter CEO.

Popular you Tubers like Mark Rober, Rhett & Link, Marshmello, iJustine, Marques Brownlee, The Slow Mo Guys, Ninja, Simone Giertz, Jacksepticeye, and Smarter Every Day have also been asking their followers to contribute to the cause liberally.

As per the latest update on the website, about 7.7 million trees have already been planted and the initiative is growing from strength to strength in popularity and task.

The campaign #Teamtreescampaign has united more than 600 you tubers in what is claimed to be the biggest fundraising event that youtube has ever put across. The main target is to complete the task of planting 20 million trees by the end of this year itself. This effort is touted to be the largest You Tube collaboration of all time.

Increase the growth of Trees and Hemp Plants

Hemp and Marijuana are both Cannabis Sativa plants out of which hemp contains virtually no THC. CBD which is hemp generated plant also has less than 0.3% of THC. All in all planting more of such a plant can be extremely beneficial for the well-being of humans for the apparent medical benefits it gives.

The major supporters of cannabis and CBD have poured in their suggestion of planting as many buds of the plant so that we can reap the rich benefits of it. The planting of more and more trees will avert the crisis that climate is currently facing. Along with it, planting more cannabis plants can be a blessing in the form of major inwards in medical research. So we will be helping in tree & hemp plantations wherever we can.

Taking the campaign forward

All the involved youtube channel owners will post videos on their channel using the hashtag which will target asking donations for the cause. The transaction fees for any donation made on the YouTube platform will be borne by YouTube itself. The major motive of video information is to inundate the channels with ads and try to place as many videos as possible about the deadly climate change to get responses in the form of donations.

The contribution per tree is affordable and not over the top which is why the program is meeting a success. The year-end target is not far and with more and more publicity and promotion, this might be the biggest completed project on climate change.
