Olivia Newton-John opens up about her condition and says her reports said she would die within a couple of months. Olivia told Liz Hayes what it felt like to read the world headlines predicting her death, in a personal interview on 60 Minutes this week.

She went on to explain that it was a weird feeling, and it was upsetting. It often felt as if the world knew something that she didn’t and that was hurtful.

Olivia’s daughter, Chloe Lattanzi said her mother’s fatal disease and a constant battle with cancer was deeply traumatizing. She said on 60 Minutes that she would wake up at night in sweats, and amidst panic attacks but she always pushed it and never really dealt with any of it.

The 33-year-old daughter Chloe said in her first interview that if anyone didn’t deserve to battle with cancer, it was her mother. Olivia along with her husband John Easterling and her daughter Chloe talk about Olivia’s life-threatening stage 4 cancer from their family home in Santa Barbara, California.

Olivia was first diagnosed in 1992 with breast cancer. She underwent numerous treatments and remained free of cancer for a long span of 21 years before the disease crept in again with vengeance in 2013.

She thought it would be best to keep this a secret as she would be treated again and continue to live a healthy life just like before. But in September 2018, doctors from Australia discovered that her cancer had returned and it was more lethal than ever.

She said she was worried if she could ever walk by herself again. She told Liz Hayes that despite the deteriorating ailment that had latched on to her, she was slowly gaining strength and that she had experienced a significant improvement in her lifestyle and health after using medical cannabis, organically grown by her husband John.

The couple is a strong believer in the power of natural plants, specifically cannabis. Olivia says that she believes cannabis has made a huge impact on her life. All three – Olivia, John and Chloe- support medical cannabis and urge for it to become leagalzied as an alternative medical treatment in Australia.

Cannabis has a stigma attached to it that it can only make people ‘high’ and cause hallucinations which gradually turn into addiction. While this may hold true in case of cannabis that contains THC – tetrahydro cannabinoid, a compound found in marijuana plants that is responsible for the high that people get while smoking pot or marijuana, it does not imply that cannabis plants are entirely responsible for this.

A cannabis compound has been making rounds in the global consumer market recently – CBD or cannabinoid. It is a compound derived from the hemp plant of cannabis genus which has healing properties. It is an anti-inflammatory and non-psychoactive compound which does not cause users to feel any high while consumption.

CBD is reportedly used to treat stress, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, epileptic fits, tourettes and many such ailments that deal with mental health. It is also an effective drug to treat swelling, pain, acute aches, inflammation and even severe diseases like Cancer in some cases.

Though there is a lot of research that has to be done to assure consumers of the medical claims by CBD, but it is found to be a truly effective compound by many people. According to the World Health Organization, there has not been any registered cases for side effects associated with CBD usage by patients.

Many have started using CBD as an alternative to prescription based drugs as it is highly effective than regular medicines. From being used as anti-depressants to opioid-alternative, CBD has emerged out to be a useful medical aid that has comforted many people.

The United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and now Australia, everywhere customers are seeking for CBD legalization. The U.S. federal government has already legalized hemp derived cannabinoid or CBD with a maximum concentration of 0.3% THC per unit. Along with the U.S., the United Kingdom has also modified its regulations around CBD and has allowed medical cannabis for treatment of severe and rare diseases.

CBD is a powerful ingredient which has sprawled throughout the world due to its impactful effects on the health of people suffering from ailments. It is only a matter of time before proper regulatory frameworks are introduced for CBD products and they are used world-wide legally.
