Kristen Bell, a popular celebrity posted on her Instagram saying, “I love my @thelordjones body lotion for my sore muscles after working out,” after hitting the gym on Tuesday.

The Lord Jones High CBD Pain & Wellness Formula Body Lotion priced at $50 has been making the headlines post Bell’s upload on her Instagram. CBD oil is trending owing to its potential health benefits which is why it is now available in an infused version in a gamut of health, beauty and fitness products.

“It may have pain-relieving capabilities, but we’re still waiting for good clinical studies to prove this,” Health’s medical editor, Roshini Rajapaksa, MD, previously wrote of CBD oil.

Roshini says that it is possible that a few drops of CBD oil can be effective and therapeutic, but they need more information on what it is really useful for. While many CBD research claims that it is effective for relieving chronic pain, as well as pain associated with cancer treatment and arthritis, it is still not clear how CBD may work to alleviate pain. It might be related to the compound’s anti-inflammatory properties but she says, they have to delve in deep to understand the exact scenario.

Research suggests that cannabinoid is effective in treating ailments like inflammation, stress, chronic pain, anxiety, calming muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis and easing nausea from chemotherapy. Cannabinoid popularly known as CBD is a non-psychoactive component which is derived from the hemp plant, it is safe to use and does not cause any harm or interfere in your bodily functions negatively.

Contrarily, tetrahydro cannabinoid, THC is another component found in the cannabis plant which has psychoactive effects and can cause potential harm if consumed in excess.

The government approves usage of only CBD in the consumer products. From cannabis-infused beauty products to CBD oil add-on shakes, marijuana is being incorporated in a variety of products.

According to Ricardo Colberg, MD, a physician at Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Brimingham, Alabama, topical creams won’t reach the muscles where you actual soreness is located.

“Any cream with a heating or cooling sensation desensitizes the nerves to pain by distracting them with stimuli on top,” he said, and the Lord Jones CBD lotion falls into that camp. But it’s not all bad news: “Scientific literature says there’s a 33% chance of the placebo effect helping people, so for some, just using a cream they believe can help will provide some relief,” Dr.Colberg added.

With the cannabis legalization, companies have been pouncing at the opportunity to create new lines of cannabis-infused products to cater to the consumer market in order to generate higher revenues. At the moment, many lotions are made with a specific concentration of cannabis which will provide a certain percentage of CBD and THC as per the desired result.

It is then combined with other ingredients like coconut oil, olive oils to make the texture of a lotion along with essential oils such as lemongrass, arnica and others to relieve pain in sore muscles.

Since these cannabis-infused products are new to the market and considered a boom to health benefits, these products are much more expensive as compared to their counterparts.

When it comes to celebrities supporting the marijuana legalization and inception of cannabis-infused beauty products, Kristen is not the only one. Other celebs like Kim Kardashian West, Emma Roberts, Whitney Ports have also shared their love for CBD based beauty products over the internet.

While Bell claims that CBD lotion helps ease her sore muscles, researchers are still sceptical about its direct effects on the affected area. Though it is a fact that CBD helps relieve pain and stress, but how far does that hold true for sore muscles is still an unanswered question from the point of science.

There is a wide range of CBD infused products to treat sore muscles, each lotion and cream differs from one another in terms of cannabis potency, strength and variety. Nevertheless, if Kristen claims she’s getting her sore muscles relaxed with the amazing new product, why not try it for yourself and look out for the results.
