Halifax District RCMP says they allegedly busted an illegal cannabis storefront in the Middle Sackville on Saturday. It was April 20th, the special occasion for marijuana community when companies and retailers sell cannabis-based products with heavy discounts to celebrate the day.4/20 is a recognized day in the marijuana culture and it is celebrated all over the world.

Restaurants and online website sellers of cannabis products announced new range of products for consumers. From cannabinoid infused beer to queso to coffee to a bunch of exciting food items, CBD was incorporated in ample of dishes.

But with many legal products being sold under the hood of the occasion, retailers were also selling illegal edible products which were later seized by the police officers. The store caught in Middle Sackville was run by a man and a woman, who are now facing charges under the Nova Scotia Cannabis Control Act.

The two are due to appear in the provincial court in Dartmounth on June 21, after which their charges would be confirmed. The fine for operating an illegal drug store ranges anywhere from $10,000 to $25,000.

Police officials say they seized cannabis and many other products infused with the drug in the store including cannabis oil, injectables, edible products such as cookies, rice crisps, gummies, peanut butter balls and hot chocolate.

Though CBD or cannabis oil is known to have health benefits, especially in relieving stress, pain, anxiety, depression and treating ailments like epilepsy, Alzheimer’s and Cancer, there are no recognized research or study which backs up these claims.

Patients have been using CBD worldwide to cure a variety of ailments now. Cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive and anti-inflammatory compound which renders soothing chemicals to the body ensuring a calming effect. However, it doesn’t alter the state of mind or interfere with normal bodily functions negatively.

Apart from CBD, another prominent compound found in marijuana plants or hemp plants is THC or tetrahydro cannabinoid. It is a psychoactive component which is responsible for the high that one gets while smoking weed. THC in high levels is harmful and can lead to dangerous effects. If consumed for a longer period of time at high potency, THC can trigger seizures, cause anxiety, forgetfulness, reduce memory retention power and also cause death in extreme cases.

It is advised that consumers take CBD based products only after discussing it with their medical examiners or doctors, especially if they have an on-going medical prescription. The drug can affect adversely if mixed with the wrong substance and can react in the body.

As for the store, police officers said that the owner of the building has also been given a formal notice to end the lease agreement with the operator to avoid any penalty charges.
