The Loose Woman star Andrea McLean has found an unconventional cure to her menopausal symptoms of anxiety and hot flushes which had been troubling her for quite some time now. She has found solace in the herbal goodness of CBD oil which has already gained widespread popularity for relieving side effects arising out of hormonal fluctuations.
Recovering From Anxiety
49-year-old Andrea, revealed to The Mirror that, “It has massively taken the edge off things with the flushes and it has made me less anxious because anxiety is still a key thing for me.Unless you have experienced it like I have, where it feels like there is a tiger in the room, then no one really understands what it is like. It is awful. Before I started taking CBD oil my doctor recommended taking propranolol and it did change my life within a week. I am on the lowest dose and it has literally made me feel like a different person. It is not an anti-depressant but what I no longer feel is that sensation of being on high alert.”
Husband To The Rescue
Andrea gives full credit to her husband Nick Feeney for acting as her pillar of support in her fight against anxiety which left her ‘feeling stupid’ and ‘lacking confidence’ at times. The brunette beauty met her current husband at a 2014 blind date. She revealed that Nick understands her well and does even ‘squeeze her arm and check she is okay.’ Andrea has referred to Nick as her ‘soul mate’ and ‘true love’ who showed her the meaning of love following two bitter divorces previously.
Journey Towards Love After Heartbreak
Andrea recalled the entire episode with super excitement and pointed out that, ‘I am excited now. About a month ago I had a meltdown about the whole thing. I am really excited. I am looking forward to saying I do and the two families coming together.’ She further added that, ‘We are not staying apart the night before, but we are going to get ready separately so I won’t see him until I walk in.’
Andrea was first married to her teenage sweetheart Nick Green in 2000 which ended in a 2005 divorce after spending 17 years together and having 16-year-old son, Finley out of the wedlock. She then moved on with her second husband Steve Toms, a famous DIY specialist who can be seen on the UKTV show Our House. Andrea split from Steve in 2011 and has 11-year-old daughter Amy from that marriage. Thus, it was extremely difficult for Andrea to walk down the aisle for the third time especially as the last two trials ended in extremely painful circumstances.
Life After Menopause
Andrea underwent hysterectomy in 2016 after struggling with perimenopause and endometriosis for long. However, her operation caused her to have an early menopause which in turn led to acute hormonal changes. She recently came to the Celebrity SAS show ad shared her story with the audience who gave her confidence of keeping up the fight.
Andrea next decided to sign up for her exclusive one-woman tour which draws inspiration from the latest book, Confessions of a Menopausal Woman. She will be travelling across the country for sharing her journey ranging from top tips of fighting menopause to showbiz secrets and even her life story for inspiring others who might find themselves in her shoes.
Andrea concluded by saying that, “I’m keen for women to known the menopause is something that happens to half the planet and although it’s a part of you, it doesn’t define all of you.We need to normalise it and give people information so they can get the help they need. It’s definitely not a power point presentation on the menopause. Everything is done with a sense of humour and lightness of touch. It’s an evening with me chatting about all kinds of things in my life.”
