UW-Madison has discovered a composite material which is derived from seafood shells and cranberry chemicals. This breakthrough discovery is being used in developing CBD lotion meant for curing skin disorders. A Canada based company known as Revive Therapeutics is implementing this non-psychoactive ingredient for manufacturing the lotion. This is being done on the basis of a licensing agreement it possesses on a patent of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation.
Brain Behind This Patent
Jess Reed a campus scientist is the driving force behind this patent. His research work involves tannis derived out of cranberries and similar foods as well as chitosan which is a structural element found in crab and shrimp shells. Revive Therapeutics is working in association with Reed and his team for using this patented tannin-chitosan composite material.
This is done with the main aim of encapsulating CBD in a time-release lotion which is expected to treat psoriasis, shingles and similar inflammatory skin conditions. Christian Krueger, the research manager in Reed’s team advocated in favour of the CBD infused lotion by stating that, “You get a delayed absorption. You might have to apply the product less frequently.”
Krueger and Reed are the co-founders of Complete Phytochemical Solutions based in Cambridge and Synesis in Wisconsin Rapids both of which are lately conducting research and development on related products. The production of industrial hemp was recently authorised by Wisconsin. Krueger feels that this can lead to the usage of other composite materials in upcoming days.
CBD or cannabidiol is one of the numerous naturally occurring compounds which can be found in hemp and marijuana. However, in stark contrast to the THC-laced edibles and joints, CBD is not mind-altering. You won’t experience the high feeling which is common in other forms of weed.
Various proponents of CBD have revealed that it can be used for treating violent seizures which do not respond to normal medications. CBD has also proved to be useful in treating anxiety, inflammation and pain. The growing popularity of CBD has led to its widespread usage in an array of avenues starting from the neighbourhood drugstore to wellness spas.
